How does buying an American car through Made in US work?
You choose a vehicle from our selection of trusted US sellers. We coordinate the purchase process, vehicle inspection, inland transportation, export documentation and shipping to the United Kingdom.
What is included in the landed price?
The landed price includes the vehicle, US inland transport, ocean freight to Southampton and our service fee. UK taxes, customs charges, registration costs and optional home delivery are handled separately where applicable.
Where do vehicles arrive in the UK?
Our main UK arrival port is Southampton, one of the country's leading ports for imported vehicles.
Can you deliver anywhere in the UK?
Yes. Once customs clearance is completed, we can arrange delivery throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
How long does shipping take?
Transit time depends on the vehicle's location in the United States, the departure port, vessel schedule and shipping method. Any timeline we give you is an estimate, not a guaranteed date.
Can I inspect the car before shipment?
Yes. After reservation, we can arrange a detailed video inspection so you can view the vehicle more closely before shipment.
Can you check specific items on the vehicle?
Yes. We can check items such as the engine, transmission, air conditioning, electrical equipment, paintwork, interior and chassis.
Which documents are supplied?
Depending on the vehicle, documentation may include the US title, bill of sale or invoice, shipping documents and export paperwork.
What is NOVA?
NOVA stands for Notification of Vehicle Arrivals. Imported vehicles must normally be notified to HMRC before registration in the UK.
Do I need to register the vehicle with DVLA?
Yes. A permanently imported vehicle must usually be registered with DVLA before it can be used on public roads.
Does an imported American car need IVA approval?
It depends on the age and specification of the vehicle. Many vehicles over 10 years old are exempt, while newer vehicles may require approval.
Do classic American cars need an MOT?
Vehicles over 40 years old can qualify for MOT exemption if they have not been substantially changed, but they must still be roadworthy.
Is import VAT only 5% on classic cars?
Certain qualifying collectors' vehicles can benefit from a reduced 5% import VAT rate, subject to HMRC criteria.
