Bronco generations
Ford launched the Bronco for the 1966 model year as a compact, go-anywhere four-wheel drive, years before the term "SUV" was common. After thirty years in production it was discontinued in 1996, and it returned in 2021.
- First generation (1966–1977): the "early Bronco", offered as a wagon, a half-cab pickup and, in the early years, an open roadster. A 289 V8 joined the six-cylinder in 1966 and the 302 V8 took over from 1969.
- Second generation (1978–1979): a full-size Bronco based on the F-Series pickup, with a removable rear top.
- Third to fifth generations (1980–1996): full-size Broncos that became more refined through the 1980s and 1990s. The smaller Bronco II was sold from 1984 to 1990.
- Sixth generation (2021 onward): a new body-on-frame Bronco in two- and four-door form, with removable doors and roof.
Buying an early Bronco
Early Broncos are among the most sought-after classic 4x4s in the world, and many have been restored or rebuilt as "restomods" with modern engines, suspensions and brakes. Both can be great cars, but they suit different buyers: check exactly what has been changed and whether the build is documented.
On original cars, look for rust in the rear quarter panels, floors, rockers, door bottoms and tailgate, and inspect the frame, especially around the spring hangers. If you plan to register a heavily modified Bronco, check your country's rules first: some require documentation or approval for engine and suspension changes.
Shipping a Bronco to your country
The US has the largest supply of Broncos of every generation. The delivered price covers the vehicle, US inland transport, ocean freight to your destination port and our service.
Customs duties, import VAT or taxes, port charges at destination, registration and local compliance costs are not included. Early Broncos over 30 years old may qualify for historic-vehicle treatment in many countries. Shipping times are estimates depending on the port, shipping line, customs and destination country.
Frequently asked questions
What is an early Bronco?
The first-generation Ford Bronco built from 1966 to 1977: a compact 4x4 offered as a wagon, a half-cab and a roadster. It is the most collectable Bronco generation.
Is a restomod Bronco harder to register abroad?
It can be. Some countries require proof or approval for engine, suspension and brake changes. Check your country's requirements before buying, and ask the seller for build documentation.
Is the Bronco Sport listed here?
No. The Bronco Sport is a separate, smaller crossover, so this page lists the Bronco itself.
What does the delivered price include?
The vehicle, transport inside the USA, ocean freight to your destination port and our service. Customs duties, import VAT or taxes, destination port charges, registration and local compliance costs are paid separately.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping times are estimates, not guaranteed dates: they depend on where the vehicle is located, the port, the shipping line, customs and your destination country. Your adviser shares an estimated timeline once you reserve.
