Eight generations of the Corvette

Chevrolet showed the Corvette in January 1953 and built the first cars that year: a fibreglass-bodied two-seater powered by a six-cylinder engine. The small-block V8 arrived for 1955 and changed the car's character for good. Knowing the generation you want narrows the search quickly.

  • C1 (1953–1962): the original roadster. Fuel injection was offered from 1957; later cars gained quad headlights.
  • C2 Sting Ray (1963–1967): the first Corvette coupe, with independent rear suspension. The split rear window was used on the 1963 coupe only; big-block engines arrived for 1965.
  • C3 (1968–1982): the long "Coke-bottle" shape with T-tops. Chrome bumpers gave way to body-colour ones in 1973–1974, and 1978 brought the fastback rear window.
  • C4 (1984–1996): a completely new, lighter design. There was no regular 1983 model year.
  • C5 (1997–2004), C6 (2005–2013) and C7 (2014–2019): modern front-engine cars with LS-family and later small-block V8s; the C7 revived the Stingray name.
  • C8 (2020 onward): the first series-production mid-engine Corvette.

What to check before you buy

A fibreglass body cannot rust, which is one reason so many old Corvettes survive, but the steel underneath can. On C1 to C3 cars, look at the frame rails and at the steel "birdcage" structure around the cabin and windscreen, and ask for photos of the underside, not only the paint.

Originality drives value on older cars. The engine stamp pad carries a partial VIN and a suffix code that show whether the engine is the one the car left the factory with; tank stickers, build sheets and window stickers add further proof. Judged cars may carry NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) awards, which is a useful sign of how correct a restoration is.

For modern Corvettes, a vehicle history report, service records and an independent inspection matter more than paperwork archaeology. We can arrange a video inspection before you commit.

Importing a Corvette from the USA

American Corvettes are left-hand drive, which suits continental Europe, and the US market offers far more choice of years, colours and options than any other. Dry-state cars from places like Arizona, Texas or California are often the most solid starting point.

The delivered price covers everything on the US side up to your destination port: the car, inland transport to the departure port, ocean freight and our service. Customs duties, import VAT or taxes, port charges at destination, registration and any local compliance work are paid separately in your country, and shipping times are estimates that depend on the port, shipping line, customs and destination country.

Many countries give cars over 30 years old in original condition a reduced rate of duty or VAT. Our country pages explain the rules for each market.

Frequently asked questions

Which Corvette generation is best to import?

It depends on use and budget. C1 and C2 cars are the collectors' choice; C3 models offer classic looks at a lower entry price and often qualify for historic-vehicle tax treatment; C5 to C7 cars are practical modern sports cars that are easier to live with every day.

Is the price shown the final price?

It is the delivered price to the destination port: the car, US inland transport, ocean freight and our service. Customs duty, import VAT or taxes, destination port charges, registration and local compliance costs are not included.

How can I check a Corvette's condition from abroad?

Before you buy we can organise a detailed video inspection, and we share the photos, documents and history available for the car. For older Corvettes, ask to see the frame, the birdcage area and the engine stamp pad.

Can I register an American Corvette in Europe?

Yes, Corvettes are registered in Europe regularly. Requirements such as lighting changes or a technical inspection depend on the country and the car's age; older cars usually follow a simpler historic-vehicle route. Our country pages cover each market.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping times are estimates, not guaranteed dates. They depend on where the car is in the USA, the port, the shipping line, customs and your destination country. After you reserve, your adviser gives you an estimated timeline and updates you at each stage.
